whenever you take road trips you like to have those places along the way to stop for breakfast and elmers is that place. there is no need to ask for anything out of the ordinary or fancy they do everything just right there way. elmer's is one of those places i look forward to whenever i'm up in grants pass and i sure wish we had one down here. you can never go wrong with the basics but they have great potato pancakes and german pancakes. those are my favorites but they always have something new and exciting to offer. i think it's time for another road trip.

Perfect crab and shrimp omelet. Strawberry lemonade was too sweet-- you can make a whole pitcher with one serving. Staff was 'ok'-- not too friendly but not rude either. Reasonable prices. Generally clean restaurant but the bathroom's a bit spotty. There's a hidden bar with a metal grate door to keep out dem young uns.

This is a little Oregon chain of restaurants. I loved that the salads used very fresh ingredients. My kids enjoyed their breakfast options, but they were too "fake" for my taste. Waitstaff is very friendly and helpful.

They can poach an egg. Hash browns were reconstituted, dried potatoes that tasted of rancid cooking grease. The biscuit was okay. The German sausage was so salty as to be inedible. When an Egg McMuffin from McDonalds starts to sound appealing....

We stopped off at Elmer's on our road trip back to Northern California. The restaurant was clean and the employees were very friendly. We got our food fast and everything was excellent. I ordered their club sandwich and it's now in my top 5 for club sandwiches!! They use the real deal when it comes to the turkey. Yum yum. My boyfriend got their chicken strips and they were really good too. Nice white meat. This was a nice treat while on the road. When you're out of town you take your chances when stopping off at unfamiliar restaurants!! Thank you Elmer!!

Great service, food and fun copyrighting in the menu's. Breakfast all day and they let us linger.

Very tasty! Fresh ingredients, fast, friendly service. We normally stop at the Grant's Pass Black Bear on our way up the 5, but after a horrible dinner at the BBD in Medford the night before, I just wasn't feeling it. We stopped at Elmer's instead. Nice portions, not too big, not stingy. Fresh veggies in my omelette, delicious hash browns, my boyfriend's steak was top notch and we got fast and friendly service with a smile. We will be making this our new breakfast stop in Southern Oregon, for sure.

I don't really care for the Elmer's chain in general but, the one in Grants Pass is the exception. The food is always good, I love their Vegetarian Omelets with no Hollandaise sauce. The service on the other hand is hit and miss. Maybe their Staff should go through Restaurant Service Etiquette 101.

Ya know, seems like these folks do everything right. Elmer must have been watching restaurant shows before they even came on ..... Everthing's right, you get seated, you get the right attention, and the food is good and served well. We're from Calif. and they're only in Oregon. Love to have them locally. A++ marks for these guys!

We have always had great service and food here. The Management really takes care of you. Still one of the best places to eat in Grants Pass!

I effing LOVE Elmer's!!! The service is a little blah but the food is worth it! I got the Chicken, Tomato, Avocado sandwich and it was absolutely mouth watering. The Fish and Chips are good too! Good vibe to the place and reasonable prices.

What a great restaurant. Very nice interior and a large breakfast menu. Nothing outlandish but all the favorites are there. Pancakes, waffles, french toast, omelette's, eggs Benedict (one version has crab meat), corned beef hash, biscuits and gravy, and a bunch of other dishes. The house grilled potatoes are really good. The staff provided excellent service. My granddaughters ordered one meal off the adult menu to split, and without asking the waitress brought it out on separate plates. We had breakfast there two mornings in a row and I would have gone back a third time, but we traveled back home that day.

The menu has something for everybody, its very excellent quality diner food. You can't go wrong! The staff was so friendly and attentive. The prices were around the same as Denny's but the food was a million times better then Denny's. The atmosphere has that down-home feeling with a fireplace and a fine selection of take-home baked goods. I could eat here everyday and not become sick of it.

Nice atmosphere...it feels like you're eating at someone's house. Very clean. Food was pretty good. Not a bad place overall.

Basic American food, prepared well, and served by a competent and friendly (but not saccharine) staff. Much prefer to Applebees or Denny's, yet similarly priced.

We wrote to the Best Western and to Elmer's Restaurant in Grant's Pass, Oregon. I stated that it's our 33rd Anniversary trip. (We stayed here about 30 years ago. We had GREAT SERVICE back then.) The current manager of the Best Western Hotel is named Jeanette Beins. She is TOTALLY GREAT!!! While we were at the front desk, signing in and filling out the necessary paper work, she called one of her staff and had the room attendant go and make sure our room was perfect before we checked in. It was. We asked about Elmer's Restaurant. She said "it's still next door". She gave us room within a short walking distance to the restaurant. For 30+ years, I still remember that we ate at some restaurant in Grant's Pass that was next to the hotel that had the most amazing blintzes, crepes, pancakes and waffles. I couldn't remembered what the name of that restaurant was. There are only 2 Best Westerns located at Grant's Pass but ONLY ONE had a restaurant next door. I found it on Yelp reviews because it posted a picture of the sign in front of the restaurant. It was Elmer's Restaurant. I can STILL remembered those delicious Cottage Cheese Blintzes from 30+ years back. Our room was 40 feet from Elmer's Restaurant's front door. We went there for early dinner the night before. I LOVED BURGERS!!! It's my weakness. I ate the most amazing juicy delicious hamburger with sweet potato fries. It really filled me up. We ate at Elmer's Restaurant again for breakfast the next morning. I was so disappointed that the cottage cheese blintzes was not listed on the menu and was going to order the loganberry crepes instead. I mentioned it to our waitress. She said that the chef can make it for me. It was the MOST AMAZING cottage cheese blintzes I ever ate. It tasted JUST as great like the one I tasted it 30+ years ago. Yes, I was worth driving thru 2 states and 427 miles to eat cottage cheese blintzes at Elmer's Restaurant! P.S,. The restaurant carries ONLY ONE DESSERT: The Manager, Leo, was on duty. We also wrote to him about us coming to eat at Elmer's and that it's been 30+ years we came. He was SO NICE and SO POLITE. He offered us a complimentary dessert. After that delicious hamburger, we were going to pass on it. However, the manager, Leo, talked my husband into it saying this is the ONLY ONE DESSERT that Elmer's offered and it's their FAMOUS signature dessert that Elmer's is well known for. My husband broke down and ordered it for himself. I said "no...it's too much...just get it for yourself and I'll nibbled on yours. When it came....it was ONE BIG slice of HOT Blueberry Dutch Clobber with a BIG GIANT SCOOP of VERY COLD vanilla ice cream on top! It looked amazing!!!. I took a picture of it. I got tempted and took ONE bite...followed by many bites!! Those HOT SWEET & TART BLUE BERRIES against that VERY COLD ice cream...that's it!!!... You're gone to heaven!!!! IT WAS SO GOOD!!

  • Ian R.

The food here is amazing but if you order anything with endless fries you better bring your spine and ask for more because they won't ask you if you'd like more and you start with a pittance. Service is pretty good as long as you're not skittish about waving down a waiter, food takes about 30 minutes to arrive after ordering. I wouldn't order any of the appetizers, most of them are 2/5. Waiters are polite and most of the customers seem to be elderly so it's a nice quiet place to eat as long as it's not the first Friday of the month.

I ate at Elmer's four times already and I had a great experience in all of them!!! First time I had some especial crepes with a fruit butter which I don't remember the name and I picked eggs, ham, and hash browns to go with it. The crepe was insanely delicious and I had crepes in many places already and were not that good... Simple and delicious!!! Second time I had a vegetarian skillet plate served over a potato pancake which was also very good. Their avocado benedict was also really yummi!! When it comes to hollandaise sauce I am very picky. I don't like anything that tastes artificial and most places in which I had eggs benedict, the sauce tasted like it was bought on a supermarket... but here at Elmer's it was very good and fresh!! Last dish I had was a crab, avocado, swiss cheese omelete... The original also comes with bacon, but I opted it out... It was very delightful and mouth watering!!! In some occasions I also had fruit with my meals and they tasted super fresh and good what makes me think they were organic!! Coffee is really good and strong...Cannot forget about their biscuits, in my opinion, they are to die for!!!! On top of that, one of the servers there, Tristan, is the sweetest ever!!! I really like when she gets to serve me!!!

Went here once as a family. My wife's food never came. When it did, it came in a to go box. We said we didn't want it and they refused to take it off of our bill. Will never go back.

We were greeted & seated quickly in a place that was well kept & nicely appointed. Our server was a bit challenged but nothing earth shattering, food was very good & came out quickly. Overall a very nice experience.

Yes, I am a fan but Thursday evening must be a hard night for some of the associates to work. While the food was very good for a diner the service for take out orders was not up to par. They got the wrong price on the ticket which can happen but then once we got back and opened the order we noticed they forgot soup. While it was only soup I do wonder how many times these type of issues occur with no reporting them. While I won't be deterred by the inadequate front of house I do hope they report this up the chain of command and get it fixed for the next customer.

This was a completely fine, very easy little restaurant. I liked that it was open 'til 10 on a Sunday night, so we didn't have to rush into town. I also feel like small local chains in Oregon tend to be a lot better than the gross big monster chains, so I'd definitely recommend going here over Denny's, Applebee's, etc. My Cobb salad was enormous. The avocados were a nice idea, but not the best quality, and the chicken also didn't have a lot going for it. However the bacon was nicely cooked and they were generous with the blue cheese, so I enjoyed the dish. The clam chowder was a nice treat - not something I'd have too often, as it was really TOO creamy, but the potato chunks and clams were good. My husband ordered the fish & chips with salmon - I thought there's a reason salmon is not generally fried, and he did too when he started the dish, but he ended up liking it. There's a little but ok beer selection - I got Descheutes Mirror Pond, which was served straight out of the bottle (I guess I could have gotten a glass if I'd asked?). The service was perfectly friendly and reasonably quick. I'd come back if we needed to stop somewhere late for an easy meal, or to check out the breakfast.

Every time we have gone here we've been greeted with a warm welcome. The food is super delicious. Any breakfast item I crave- they have. Their sandwiches are also good. But I give them 5 stars based on their breakfast food and the excellent customer service we've received every time we have visited.

Our first time at an Elmers and it was a great experience! Coffee was hot and refilled opten; breakfast was so good that we only had a couple of pieces of bacon left for the dogs; service by Trish was attentive and friendly; restaurant is exceptionally clean in the front of the house with up to date decorations. We'll go back when we're in Southern OR again!

Elmer's has always been a favorite of mine. My favorite is the French Dip, and an AMAZING cup of cocoa. We are always greeted and seated right away- no wait time even on busy days. We even have a favorite waitress who knows just how i like my sandwich. 5 stars.

We stopped in grants pass overnight looking for a okay place to eat. Luckily directly beside the best Western motel we found Elmer's. The help was friendly both at dinner and in the morning for breakfast. The Ham and Tillamook cheese omelette is absolutely Great. They also pour a good stiff drink in the bar!

This place was no bueno. We stopped in here after a looong drive down from Seattle and were ready for a delicious dinner of breakfast food. The waitress we were assigned was absolutely horrible. She only paid attention to the older customers seated in her section and gave us terrible service. She forgot part of my order, never took a drink order at all, forgot to bring us ketchup and when reminded took another 15 mins to do so, and took upwards of 20 mins to fetch the bill when prompted -- all this, when only two other (older) couples were seated in her section. It's a bit much to be totally ignored by your waitress while you can see her kissing up to other patrons seated five feet away. The food itself was super greasy and a bit of a letdown. We did not try the german pancakes everyone seems to rave about, so maybe that is their specialty. I had an omelette and my man had one of their egg skillets - both were about what you could expect at a Denny's. I don't think I'd stop in again.

  • John P.

I've had great meals and terrible ones over the years here. Last time some old friends and my wife and I had dinner there. My prime rib was over done and another in our group was unable to get a meal prepared to her specifications (she's diabetic). Also, my veggies were undercooked and cold.

  • Loose G.

I stopped for breakfast at 6:30. Few customers but it took over half an hour to get eggs and hash browns. They were luke warm and dried out like they had been cooked 20 minutes earlier. Tasteless watery coffee to go with it. Priced higher than Denny's but lower quality. Go a little farther down the road to the Train Depot restaurant, much better.

Well, I was seated by the very nice and friendly manager (didnt catch her name), I ordered a drink, came by her right away. I waited for server, she finally showed and said exactly this: "what are we having tonight?" No "hello" or any greeting. OK. I order a burger, med-rare. She says "sorry, our policy is that ALL burgers will be served WELL DONE. What????? Are you serious? She says yes. I say, bring me the check, and I leave to go across the street. Manager did come over to try and explain, but was too late........ I cant say anything about the food, because I left!

We stopped here for breakfast on our way back home. If you have never tried a Dutch Pancake, try one here! It's a thin and light pancake that covers your entire plate, dusted with powdered sugar and served with lemon wedges, butter and syrup. I just squeezed the lemon over it - no syrup for me - and it was DELICIOUS! My new favorite! I love how comfortable Elmer's is... like you're eating breakfast in someone's country cottage or something. The staff was warm and friendly and our coffee cups were never empty. Our breakfast was served promptly. The prices are good as well as the menu selection. This place is no Denny's - you'll find quality home cooking at Elmer's!

My local relatives recommended Elmer's for breakfast at the end of Thanksgiving week before our trip back to the Bay Area. We got there around 7:30am on Sunday morning and it was not crowded and we were greeted and seated promptly. The interior is very comfortable, clean and without that chain feel. The service staff were all friendly and professional. I ordered the Potato Pancakes with bacon and eggs and the pancakes (just like in the site photo) were the best I ever had. The rest of the party of 5 all cleaned their plates. Definately the place to stop in Grants Pass for breakfast. (For lunch in Grants Pass please see my review of Circle J)

After being seated it took a bit before anyone came to take my order and even then, I had to ask for a breakfast menu as I was hankering for it even that late in the afternoon. For a place that touts serving breakfast all day, I was surprised a small selection if not their entire fare wasn't included in the lunch/dinner menu I received. I would love to give this place another star because the manager and waitress, Tonja, were very friendly, polite, and happy to be of service. Even the host (sorry, didn't note the name) was just as cheerful. But the stars were plucked away because, aside from the menu situation: - The eggs (ordered scrambled) were dry and unseasoned; - The bacon was overdone, stiff as a board, and way too salty (does the wait staff/management/cook even try their food now and again?); - The Dutch Baby (like an oversized crepe served drenched in butter with lemon slices and powdered sugar) was burnt brown on the edges and the server had already offered/suggested to take it back saying it was overdone and temperamental; however it would take about 15 minutes. Granted, the second time around it came back perfect and was well worth the wait - delicious. And the manager came out in the meantime to apologize for the problem and said he would just charge me for my large orange juice (it was grapefruit, but whatev) as their goal was to have a happy customer who wants to come back. Ironically he kept eying my cell phone which had my Yelp check-in page still in place. I can't help but think that if I hadn't (a) taken a picture of my spent eggs and bacon and posted them to Yelp and/or (b) checked in at the very moment I arrived, if none of that would have taken place. It just seemed a bit suspect to me. It was a clean restaurant and like I said, the people were polite and friendly. Two stars = Meh, I've experienced better and in truth, I have. I'd spent 6 hours on the road, had another 3 to go and didn't want to be flattening my butt on their seats for another 45 minutes. So yes, they could do better and not necessarily on the count with the Dutch Baby - more with the immediate service (sitting in a fairly empty restaurant tucked at the back in the traffic path to the restrooms/bar and not being serviced was depressing especially since I was by my lonesome), providing a breakfast menu along with the meal of the hour, more attention to all the food they serve.

I've been here four times, twice for dinner, twice for breakfast. I've always been seated promptly. The servers are friendly and mostly attentive. The kitchen seems consistently slow and it doesn't seem to matter if the place is packed or not. When the food arrives it tastes good and is well-prepared. It isn't spectacular, but solid. The meat in the french dip was tender. My burger was good, but the meat wasn't especially flavorful. I thought my blueberry pancakes were a little dry (although others at my table thought their hazelnut pancakes were awesome). I enjoyed the avocado benedict the most of all the dishes I've had. Oh, and the potato pancake that came with my husband's breakfast was delish!

Three for late Sunday evening dinner, most excellent service by our waiter Cody! We all chose from different sections of the menu and each received a fabulous meal. If and when I find myself passing through Grants Pass with a growling belly, Elmer's will be the place I would come to.

I want to thank the folks at Elmer's in Grants Pass for always making us feel welcome and for just the right amount of friendliness (not overbearing). The food is not opulent but is fresh & good - made with real and local ingredients. The service is quick but not hurried. The manager Zac Belote always makes himself available to address any question you have. They have been gracious in allowing us to use the back meeting area for our small business meetings when available.

Finishing up one vacation's worth of reviews before starting another . . . Elmer's was just the place to stop at after starting the long drive from The Euge back to the Bay Area. The Avocado Eggs Benedict is just the thing to get if you're a veggie looking for a good, hearty breakfast before a long day of driving. A hearty American breakfast, even for a veggie, is the best way to start a road trip. Easy to get to from the freeway, too!

I had a breakfast here the other morning, a fried egg, bacon and cheddar sandwich, really good! Had a choice of hash browns or fresh fruit, fruit was indeed fresh! Better than average chain restaurant coffee, and the large fresh squeezed OJ was served in a pint beer glass, now that's a large OJ! Waitress was very nice, service was quick yet still friendly. It really appears that this chain actually cares about quality and strives for repeat business.

Stopped by here for breakfast on the way to Washington. I have fond memories of Elmer's. I use to eat here frequently when I lived in Washington, and I remember this place being superb in quality. Boy was I wrong...I guess good things don't last. I ended up ordering the crab benedict and it was way too salty for my taste. The coffee that I ordered with my breakfast was also a little too watery and the portions definitely shrunk as well. I miss the old Elmer's. Oh well, t'was a great memory.

I don't know anything about lunch or dinner here, but breakfast is off the hook. The German pancakes are the stars of the show. Service is fast and friendly. The combo is enough food for two, about $12

Just home from our recent dinner - 27 April, 2015, 5:41pm. Seated as soon as we walked in, by a lovely woman, who turned out to be the manager. Our waitress was Rayn H., per the ticket, and she is AWESOME. Hubby ordered Chicken Fried Steak and Eggs, for me, the 'Crabacado' omelette. Drinks were served before we ordered, exactly as we wanted them. I heard hubby order his, but I'm pretty sure he mumbled - he was served a REAL Steak and Eggs plate, and he cannot eat steak, due to tooth problems. My omelette was beautiful! Poor Rayn was mortified, and got him a new order of Chicken Fried Steak within minutes, and even the manager came over to apologize. I CANNOT compliment the staff here enough, and it was NOT your fault! Our ticket came out fine, and we tipped well - Thank You RAYN!!!

The food was good. A step up from your usual chain diner type place. Service could have been better but we were a large group so that was probably part of it. Our waitress wasn't very friendly but got the job done. I enjoyed my soup and sandwich. My husbands french dip was made wrong but he didn't say anything. A few people in our party got breakfast. That seemed to be a big hit. I think I would stick with breakfast next time.

Oh.. My.. Goodness... Came here with "Denny's" type expectations, left with a belly full of homestyle made with love, from your Grama type of food. Will be back without a doubt, and to think I've lived near GP for over 2yrs.. Perfect right off of the highway access for those traveling, and they're open early and close pretty late. Did I mention the service? I don't think I could count the smiles and the server Scott checked on me multiple times without being pushy or annoying. I came in hungry, left happy. Thank you Elmers!

I ordered the crabacado omelette which overall tasted good, but it was pretty cold inside. I substituted cottage cheese instead of hash browns with no extra charge and the cottage cheese tasted fresh. The fruit I received, strawberries, was drenched in sugar and I was not told about his so that was disappointing since I can't eat sugar. Overall pretty good food and service!!

We met here to celebrate Dad's birthday and the food was wonderful, the service, not so much. Since Dad is 94, we didn't want him to drive home in the dark, so had an early dinner. For a Tuesday at 3pm, they were not very busy, as would be expected for any restaurant. There was no reason that we should have had to wait for 5 minutes to be seated. The food was excellent. I had the Dungeness crab BLT salad and it was great. I ordered the "lighter" portion and it was still a generous portion. My husband ordered the Cobb salad and had the same comments. Dad ordered the salmon, hold the chives. They got all the orders right and the food arrived promptly. Our waiter only checked on our table once, and said he would be "right back" with more iced tea. He never came back and it was difficult to get anyone else's attention. I know we were chatting and enjoying a leisurely meal, but we didn't expect to be ignored. From the other reviews that I have read, the food is always good, but you take your chances with the service, I'm sorry to say. They really need to work on their customer service!

First time here and I loved it. Our waitress was very nice and helpful. She even brought us out a sample of the Loganberry Sauce because we had never heard of it before. I had the German Pancake which is and egg and something that is cooked to almost a crepe consistency in the oven. It was so delicious. I am glad there is not an Elmer's in Arizona because I wouldnt be able to stay away from those German Pancakes. The Loganberry butter just really pushed it over the top, DELICIOUS!!!!

This was a surprise. The food is much better than expected. Had the Alaskan Cod with a really good chowder. They serve Bridgeport IPA in the bottle with a chilled glass. Two dinners and one beer for $24! Looks like a good breakfast menu too.

Oh.. My..

Oh well, t'was a great memory.

whenever you take road trips you like to have those places along the way to stop for breakfast and elmers is that place. there is no need to ask for anything out of the ordinary or fancy they do everything just right there way. elmer's is one of those places i look forward to whenever i'm up in grants pass and i sure wish we had one down here. you can never go wrong with the basics but they have great potato pancakes and german pancakes. those are my favorites but they always have something new and exciting to offer. i think it's time for another road trip.

This was a surprise. The food is much better than expected. Had the Alaskan Cod with a really good chowder. They serve Bridgeport IPA in the bottle with a chilled glass. Two dinners and one beer for $24! Looks like a good breakfast menu too.

Oh.. My..

Great family restaurant, service with a smile. Large portions. Fair price. We split our German Combo breakfast. Just the right amount. 2 coffees pancakes eggs slab if ham 16.00. Would come back again. Easy on off 5 freeway.
